The Cape Verdean Nurses Association (CVNA) was founded in 2016 in Boston, MA with CVNA President Rute I. Teixeira leading the association as a way to unite Cape Verdean Nurses and give back to the community we serve.
Our goal is to support, improve and transform the overall health of our Cape Verdean community. We will implement health promotion education and organize community building activities. We will provide culturally competent nursing education across the life span by Cape Verdean nursing professionals.

CVNA awards its scholarship based on a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by CVNA Scholarship Committee include, but not limited to the following: academic accomplishments, extra curriculum activities or volunteer services, references, personal essay, and financial need.

In 2025, we will celebrate the sixth year of our fundraising initiatives. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, our annual gala is critical for supporting our health promotion activities and community programs. Join us on April 26th at Blue Hill Country Club, starting at 7 PM, as we honor our achievements for the year. The evening will feature a sit-down dinner, raffle prizes, entertainment, and an awards ceremony.

In 2018 the Cape Verdean Nurses Association established a scholarship program for Cape Verdean descendants pursuing a career in nursing. This program is managed by CVNA Scholarship Committee, which includes a board member and CVNA members. The applications are reviewed based on academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities or volunteer services, references, and the essay. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior entering their first year of a nationally accredited College or University Registered Nursing Program or to a nursing student enrolled in the undergraduate, graduate program. The one-time scholarship of $2000 will go directly to the student’s university bursar’s office at the beginning of the academic year.
